Medic Pi
Medic Pi
“Locked In” is Edinburgh’s only escape game based in real rooms and not purpose built sets. It lets you explore the secrets of Summerhall, Edinburgh’s old Vet School. You may find yourself deep within the history of the building while exploring an old laboratory, a dissection room, an anatomy theatre or even the small animal hospital. Or, you may find yourself exploring the building as it’s used today- where you must uncover the identity of who is plotting against Pickering’s Gin and save the distillery. Summerhall is a building steeped in history and culture, creating an atmospheric setting for you to be tested to the max.
In order to guide you through operating theatre game, someone will give you some hints to help you see the light of day again.
The task was to design and develop an automation system with graphic interface to enhance the gaming experience.
An old medical cart already present in the room (formerly a veterinary operating theatre) was used to build the player’s terminal.
It has an integrated keyboard, it just needed a screen, speakers and a Raspberry Pi.
Processing provided a comprehensive way to build a graphic interface and network communication tools.
Two different interfaces were developed, one for the user to be run on the Pi and one for the game master running a Mac in the control room.
A couple of arduinos are spread around the room to manage DMX lighting, audio stems, unlocking doors, connect to other mini games with an additional Pi playing “CCTV”.
A genuinely fun game to play. Great story, fun game master and cool problem to solve!
